You have 3 options. 1. If your monitor has a HDMI port, then you can use a HDMI cable to directly link the PS3 to the monitor. This is pretty much the best option. 2. If your monitor does not have a HDMI port, but does have a DVI port, you can use a HDMI to DVI adapter to link the PS3 to the monitor.

I just got a 1080p computer monitor and was trying to hook up my PS3 for some HD goodness so I got an HDMI to DVI cable and plugged them both in. Looks great but the only problem is I can't get any sound - I realise I should have seen this problem coming but the monitor only has a power cable, a DVI input and a VGA input, so no headphone jack or anything. Looks like your monitor has a headphone out. Connect your PS4 to the monitor with an HDMI cable, connect your speakers to the monitor's headphone out, and you should be in good shape. If you also connect your PC over HDMI and direct your operating system to send sound over HDMI, sound will also come out of the speakers. Sure. I have been using a BenQ GW series monitor for exactly this. The PS4 is connected by HDMI, the PC is connected by DisplayPort. The monitor is set to switch to whichever when it wakes up, so all I have to do is power up the PS4 and it takes t For gamers who enjoy playing on their PC, you can still get plenty of use out of your PS3 controllers. Grab your controller, the PC you want to connect it to, a mini-USB cable, and we’ll walk

You really want to get a monitor that can support 1920x1080 natively for the best results. Anyways, this monitor comes with component video inputs, or a DVI input. Since this monitor doesn't do 1080p, you might as well just get the component video cable for the PS3 and use that.

Plugging it into the computer's motherboard won't do you much good, though, because the input will be processed by the computer itself, not the monitor. It'd be like hooking up a DVD player to a VHS player to your TV. So make sure that whatever you do, you plug straight from your PS3 (to the adapter) to your computer monitor. Hope that helps.

Ideally, you want a monitor with speakers that is HDCP compliant. This requires the least amount of extra parts since you can just plug the PS3 straight into the monitor and get both the video and audio output. If your monitor isn't HDCP compliant, video wont output to the monitor but you can use this to get around it.
